Man due in court after woman (50s) rescued from River Slaney in Carlow

A man is due in court today following an alleged assault near a river in Co Carlow that resulted in a woman having to be rescued from the water.
Gardaí were alerted to the incident of alleged assault in Townparks, Tullow, Co Carlow on the evening of Sunday May 5 at approximately 8pm.
A woman, aged in her 50s, was rescued from the River Slaney, while a 56-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
The man was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in the South East of the region.
He has since been charged, and was due to appear before Kilkenny District Court this morning at approximately 10.30am.
In a statement, gardaí confirmed that investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
They added that if anyone was in the area at the time of the incident, or if anyone has dash-cam or CCTV footage, to contact Carlow Garda Station on 059 913 6620.
