Much-loved pensioner Patricia Muckian dies after alleged attack at tea party in Dundalk

A much-loved pensioner (81) who was allegedly attacked with an axe at a tea to celebrate her sister-in-law’s 75th birthday has died in hospital from her injuries.

Patricia ‘Pat’ Muckian suffered severe head trauma, while her sister-in-law Mairead and niece Maria were also injured. The three women were enjoying tea and cake to celebrate Mairead Muckian’s 75th birthday in the kitchen of her home in the Glenwood estate in Dundalk on the afternoon of May 3 when the attack occurred.

Gardaí confirmed this morning that the woman passed away on Monday, May 13 at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. They said: “Gardaí investigating the serious assault in Glenwood Estate, Dundalk on the afternoon of Friday, May 3 can confirm that one woman who was seriously injured in the assault has passed away.”

Nicholas Muckian (47) of Glenwood, Dundalk has appeared before Dundalk District Court in relation to the incident. He is charged with three counts of assault causing harm at the same location.
