FRONT-LINE Gardai had a lucky escape after a petrol bomb exploded just yards in front of them.
The Irish Sun can reveal the device ignited as officers protected the scene of an assault on Sean McDermott Street in Dublin’s north inner city around 8.20am on Sunday morning.

Following the attack, investigators issued a description of the suspect as he fled.
One man, who’s in his 50s and was understood to be “smelling of petrol”, was arrested a short time later in a nearby street.
And when Gardai searched the suspect’s home they later recovered €300,000 worth of suspected ecstasy tablets.
The suspect was later released with a file being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
One source told us: “If this device had landed any closer, Gardai could have been dealing with very serious injuries.
“This was a reckless attack on Gardai who were simply doing their job.
“The incident also led to the apprehension of a suspect in a very fast manner and the seizure of a large quantity of drugs.”
Gardai also confirmed one man had been arrested in connection with the incident.
“It could have resulted in horrific injuries for anyone present. I utterly condemn this attack and it is crucial that Gardai receive the necessary support ensuring community safety.
“This type of attack can add to a climate of fear and uncertainty among law enforcement personnel.
