Two men involved in ‘violent exchanges’ on the roof of a building at the rear of St Finian’s Park in Drogheda, have received suspended sentences.

Dylan Reilly (26), St Finian’s Park, pleaded guilty to committing affray with others and to producing a long-handled hammer during a dispute.

Karl Bowden (26), St Finian’s Park, admitted committing affray with others and producing an axe during a dispute.

Court presenter Sgt John O’Hehir said that on March 5, 2023, the incident was reported to gardaí.

There were violent exchanges between men who were waving weapons at each other.

Mr Reilly had eight previous convictions, and Mr Bowden 46

On this occasion, somebody knocked on his door wielding an axe.

Unfortunately, he reacted and climbed on to the roof of a shed where he was waving the hammer.

It was stated by solicitor Dermot Monahan on behalf of Mr Bowden that since coming out of prison he had put his head down and was working as a scaffolder.

In each case, Judge McKiernan imposed a four-month sentence, suspended for 12 months.
