A father of two who was stabbed to death at a house in north Dublin overnight has been named locally.
Mark Carroll (34) was discovered with serious injuries after emergency services were alerted to a house in the Scribblestown area of Finglas at around 1am this morning.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to James Connolly Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Mr Carroll was from the Finglas area and had been a visitor at the property where the fatal assault happened.
Investigators believe he was stabbed to death after a row turned violent and are attempting to locate the chief suspect for the attack.
Tributes have been paid online to the assault victim with one family member saying they have been left “numb” by the tragedy.The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified while the scene remains sealed-off for members of the Garda Technical Bureau to carried out a detailed forensic examination.
A garda spokesperson said: “A senior investigating officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been established at Finglas Garda Station.
“Additionally, a Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to keep the deceased’s family informed of developments.
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the Scribblestown area between midnight and 1am. Additionally, individuals with video recordings, including motorists with dash cams, from the area within the timeframe are asked to provide footage to investigating gardaí.
“The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will follow.”
