Man accused of assaulting and attempting to suffocate partner’s mum in nursing home, the Alleged Assault happened, at the Sonas Nursing Home, Ballymahon Road Athlone. Fifty-five-year-old Peter Keaney, of Hillside Close, Monksland, Athlone, Roscommon was admitted to bail after being sent forward to Mullingar Circuit Court on a signed guilty plea of assault causing harm to the elderly woman and of attempting to suffocate her with a pillow. Kearney was heard, by a Nursing home, staff member, shouting, Die Die, you Fuck… Bitch.

Solicitor Mark Cooney was assigned to Mr Keaney during today’s proceedings and requested that he be referred for psychiatric assessment.

Judge Owens directed for a psychiatric assessment and report to be carried out.

Peter Keaney was remanded in custody to appear at Athlone District Court again on 8 May for DPP Directions.
