Man, 70s, hospitalised following reports of shooting in Longford

A man aged in his 70s has been hospitalised following reports of a shooting in Co Longford yesterday evening.

Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating reports of a discharge of a firearm at a residential premises in Longford Town at around 7.50pm.

They confirmed the scene remains preserved this morning and will be examined further today.

The man was taken to Regional Hospital Mullingar to be treated for injuries believed to be serious but non-life threatening.

Gardaí said a techincial examination of the scene will take place.

They added: “Enquiries are ongoing and no further information is available at this time.”
