A former Fine Gael councillor from Co Longford is facing a jail sentence in connection with three charges of money laundering.

Frank Kilbride, with an address in Ballinalee, Co Longford, was remanded in custody at Longford Circuit Court today, after his sentence hearing was adjourned.

The 70-year-old former businessman and broadcaster previously admitted to laundering more than €2.6m during various dates between 2017 and 2019.

Judge Kenneth Connolly said he cannot see any way of dealing with the matter on a non-custodial basis.

The judge remanded Frank Kilbride in custody to appear again before Longford Circuit Court next Tuesday for his sentenced to be finalised.
