FOLLOWING the announcement that a ban on wearing balaclavas and other face coverings at protests is to be introduced by the Government, Justice Minister Helen McEntee has since given an update on the flawless plan.

“God no, private security firms who evict families from their homes under the protection of Gardaí will not be required to show their faces, lol, are ye mad?” a statement from the Department of Justice read. “This new law I pulled out of me arse is to be misused by us, not you lot – that’s not how Ireland works by the way, but nice try”.

McEntee is examining legal advice from the Attorney General that cleared the way for new legislation that would prohibit protesters from wearing masks with the intention to intimidate.

“Oh, don’t worry, much like my hate speech bill, the vague wording of this legislation will always favour the government’s position,” the statement continued, “this is just a class thing aimed at scobes and the likes so don’t worry your little heads as long as you’re not protesting against something good, only bad protests will be affected”.

Asked to define a bad protest, the Minister for Justice elaborated, “basically protests that disagree with my personal political stance; just don’t be disadvantaged and angry and you’ll be fine”.
