Firefighters are currently battling a fire in the Dublin mountains this afternoon. Four water tenders two water tankers and two District Officers from Dublin Fire Brigade are currently at the scene.

Huge plumes of smoke from the gorse fire can be seen at the townland of Barnacullia near Stepaside. Local councillor Pierce Dargan shared a warning to residents on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He wrote: “Please be advised a fire has been reported in Stepaside near Fernhill. The fire services have been contacted.” A number of other users also shared pictures and videos showing the area covered in thick smoke.

Authorities have advised those living in the area who are affected by the smoke to keep their windows closed. A number of power outages have also been reported in nearby areas. Gardai are also at the scene.

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: “Gardaí are assisting fire services in relation to an ongoing fire incident in Stepaside, Co. Dublin.”

The latest update from Dublin Fire Brigade, posted on X, reads: “We are receiving a high volume of calls from members of the public in regards to the gorse fire on lower three rock. In the last hour, we have processed approximately 200 calls.

“We appreciate you taking the time to call us. We are currently fighting the fire. Currently, 4 Water Tenders 2 Water Tankers 2 District Officers are on scene. If you are affected by the smoke, please close your windows.

“We are also protecting properties affected by the fire. We are working closely with @gardainfo and @ESBNetworks.”
