Several suspects have emerged over the years in relation to the murder of Raonaid Murray – including infamous killer Graham Dwyer.
While sadistic killer Dwyer, who murdered Elaine O’Hara in 2013, was ultimately ruled out quickly, many other names and descriptions have emerged in the past 25 years – including a female suspect. The ‘prime’ suspect
The detective who led the murder inquiry previously stated that a local tradesman in the Dun Laoghaire area who was known to carry knives was the main suspect in the Raonaid Murray case. Detective Inspector Eamon O’Reilly said he arrested a total of 13 suspects in the case – but believed this man, who he described as a “junkie” was a very credible suspect. Gardai also had a witness who spoke of a man in his mid-20s who was seen in a heated argument in the area of ‘The Cut’, where Raonaid was killed. The suspect was arrested but there wasn’t enough evidence to charge him.
The female suspect
Unknown female DNA was found under Raonaid’s fingernails and gardai did seek the whereabouts of a woman aged between 16 and 23 years of age seen near the scene in Silchester Park at around 12.30am.
Her male companion
This young female was also seen in the company of a man in his mid-20s, and both have never come forward. The man with the ‘Noel Gallagher’ style hair
One of the earliest descriptions of a suspect was that of a man in his mid-20s, five foot 10 inches in height with sandy-coloured hair styled like Oasis star Noel Gallagher. Detectives were told that a man fitting that description was seen arguing with Raonaid in Corrig Avenue on the night of her murder.Farah Swaleh Noor
Murder victim Farah Noor is alleged to have told Scissor Sister Mum Kathleen Mulhall that he stabbed Raonaid. “He told me I would end up the same way. He said he was too good to be caught,” she said. Noor was knifed to death by Kathleen’s daughters Charlotte and Linda Mulhall in March 2005. Before that time he was questioned by gardai over the murder after it was determined he was in the Dun Laoghaire area at the time.Tinder rapist Patrick Nevin
The so-called ‘Tinder rapist’ Patrick Nevin was once spoken to by detectives re-investigating the Raonaid Murray case. Evil Nevin, who brutally raped a woman he lured on the dating app, was spoken to by Gardai because he was believed to live in the area at the time, fit the age profile, and already had a history of extreme violence against women by the year 2001.
