THE person who signed off on the €336,000 “Gucci bike shed” at Leinster House will be held accountable, the Housing Minister has claimed.

It comes as the Public Accounts Committee ordered officials from the Office of Public Works to come before the watchdog on October 10 to be grilled about the ridiculous over-spend.Revelations about the €336,000 spent on a bike rack for Leinster House have sparked public outrage.

The head of the OPW has been ordered to compile a report for Minister Kieran O’Donnell which was due to be published this week.

TDs and Senators from the State’s spending watchdog known as the PAC met today and agreed that officials in charge of the OPW should be hauled before them next month to face questions about the bike shed.

PAC member Paul McAulliffe said that the Committee needs to find out who signed off on the spend and whether there was any political oversight of the decision.
