We believe in Cash.  Reason, we don’t want to live in a State dictated by robots and every transaction we make recorded as part of our digital footprint.  Ordinary people across Ireland and Europe who don’t have access to Visas, Revolut, etc. depend on ordinary cash.  You just have to look back before the 2010 crash.  I witnessed people paying for one coffee with a Visa card they went way beyond the Prada brigade.  The country was left in tatters.  No.  Like many others I believe in cash.  The thieves in town are not robbing cash they are robbing goods to be sold on the black market and I know many living in the D4 area, with their noses so high in the air, and their Gold Visas crying out for payment and that bluff still continues!  It is like now in supermarkets that there are very few staff replaced by machines but who suffers yes our elderly because the supermarket giants will not pay staff to sit at checkouts.  Someday it will all change and hopefully for the better before WW3 comes and then we are all in a bunker and the Gold Cards won’t stop a cruise missile.  Mary Mallarkey from Belmullet, who left for Dublin in 1975, married a plumber who later became a building contractor and bought her D4 accent in Brown Thomas may look back and say to herself why did I leave the Auld farm, the donkey, the cash hidden under the mattresses,  Now look at my Porche owned by Finance (sharks).  Anyway when people have a difference it creates new thoughts and a broader scale of conversation.

Fred also says what about the homeless outside shops, they really suffer in this cashless society.

  1. Cash is great if you’re in the security business, able-bodied enough to protect yourself from muggers / burglars or wealthy enough to protect your money from fraud (ironically, money stolen in online fraud is always converted to cash, and then it vanishes…). Thieves love cash because it’s untraceable. Even if you never carry cash, robbers may think you have it. Even if they know you haven’t got hard cash, they will try to scam your bank details or credit card – then withdraw the stolen funds from an ATM, before laundering it through cash businesses. My book uses case histories to highlight the dangers the existence of cash poses to most people, especially the elderly and retail workers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DGXG8FT5

  2. I aimed this book mainly at old people and their carers who are being encouraged to use cash for sentimental reasons etc. It is a myth that cash gives independence – it can literally cost you your life.
