Judge has ordered the arrest of a man in his 20s accused of stabbing a man and a security guard during a violent row at a Longford based direct provision centre after he failed to show up for court for the second week in succession.

Youssef Azeddou (27) 209 Richmond Court, Richmond Street, Longford had been due to be served with a book of evidence in connection to an incident at Richmond Court on July 2, 2023.who is also before the courts, sustained “multiple lacerations” to his arm and body.Azeddou, had been remanded on bail to appear back at a sitting of Longford District Court last week for the service of a book of evidence.

When the accused failed to show, defence solicitor Fiona Baxter appealed for the court to allow her undertake efforts to contact Azeddou.

Those efforts, Ms Baxter confirmed at a sitting of Longford District Court this week, had come up short with Sgt Enda Daly, for the prosecution, applying for a bench warrant.

This, he said, was being made despite the State still not being in a position to serve the book of evidence on Azeddou.
