Throw baby out with bath water: this is a luxury we cannot afford. Homelessness is at crisis levels, students need places to live, those on the local authority ladder are there for years. Yet we know there are thousands of vacant potential homes. There has been legislation that has worked but sadly greed can so easily intervene in the works of what was a “Good” charity especially for the homeless going back some 50 years or worse bureaucracy in the tentacles that surround it can make a nest of vipers and deny people homes. Time to ask questions. We need to get back Peter McVerry Trust back on track doing what it does best. The origin (Pre-Covid 19) is outlined here because perspective is now required and when politicians arrive at your door be knowledgeable and ask the questions and seek the answers. It is appalling to see tents, rain, people addicted, living in Dublin who are in desperate need. Recommend Bogtrotter on this site. Ireland’s nursing home sector ‘under threat of failure’ amid post-pandemic challenges – report. Article published by The Journal, 9th January 2024. The Budget approaches; time for answers. Comment: A person who had nothing but a state pension has been 8 years covered by the Fair Deal; the amount they pay is euros 198.00 per week. But then gradually the nursing homes start raising extra charges at say euros 140 and rising fast. Then there is another question, the person is supposed to pay 80% of their income, who receives the other 20%? We need to ask questions?
