Ireland has struck an extradition deal with the United Arab Emirates, just a week after a high-ranking member of the notorious Kinahan crime gang was nabbed in Dubai.
Sean McGovern, previously identified by Dublin’s Special Criminal Court as a key player in the criminal network, was arrested in what the Garda Commissioner hailed as a “significant intervention”. The Irish government gave the green light to the bilateral treaties on extradition and mutual legal assistance with the UAE during a virtual Cabinet meeting on Friday morning.
