A search at the former family home of Kyran Durnin in Dundalk, Co Louth is to resume at first light this morning.

This search operation, which gardaí hope will provide them with evidence as to Kyran’s whereabouts or what has happened to him, enters a third day today.

The eight-year-old schoolboy is missing presumed dead. Gardaí believe he may have been killed up to two years ago.

The search at the former Durnin family home at Emer Terrace in Dundalk was yesterday expanded.

Kyran Durnin was reported missing on 30 August

The Durnin family lived at the house until last May, and gardaí say the new tenants who live there are in no way connected to the missing eight-year-old or his disappearance.

Gardaí took possession of the house earlier this week following a District Court Order.

A digger was brought in and used to search an area of wasteland behind the gardens at the rear of the row of terraced houses.

It is understood that this area of wasteland will remain the focus of the search this morning as garda forensic experts and members of the Garda Technical Bureau return to the scene.

However, just how much progress has been made in the operation and how long this search will continue for still remains unknown.

On 30 August this year, a missing person’s report was filed at Drogheda Garda Station in relation to Kyran.

Gardaí were told he was last seen in the town two days earlier.

However, during the course of their inquiry, information came to light that led detectives to suspect that Kyran had been missing for more than two days.

Last week, they upgraded the missing person’s case to one of murder.
