Mayo Woman Harassed by Leitrim Man, for 3 years.
Stalking and online harassment is sadly more common than it would appear to people who have never experienced it. It’s not just rejected wannabe partners who do it; anyone with a grudge or perceived sense of entitlement to something you have, anyone jealous / envious / covetous or just plain hateful is liable to use these tactics to frighten you, make you withdraw from social events and lose faith in people. The law is toothless. “You can’t sue me because I’m poor” is a sentence I recall a scumbag using when she was harassing my mother and me. I reported her to Gardai and we both got solicitors to write to her. She continues to harass my mother from time-to-time. She stopped openly harassing me but I’d still get second-hand reports that she was “watching” me (in one case she told her friend where I was working, the time and location and what I was doing, and I actually asked a manager to change my shift in case she turned up). I have no advice to offer except this: Protect your loved ones and yourself. Don’t let it make you a recluse – get out, keep living, know that most people are good. Keep your friends close – and your enemies far away.
