Missing Boy in Drogheda.

Privacy laws “protecting” children again. We need to expand the Public Services card to include children. The children’s PSC should include a swipe feature. This is the most efficient way to monitor data on their school attendance, their engagement with social workers, etc. Everyone should have a PSC combined with a medical card, to streamline our contact with public services. It would cut out a lot of bureaucracy – and save lives. Imagine if Kyran had a public services card that recorded his school attendance; the system would trigger an alert if he didn’t swipe the card in a new school, social workers could not assume another boy was Kyran, and another boy could not check into a hotel with his name because his biometrics would not match Kyran. We have the technology to protect children (and hospital patients in urgent need of quick access to medical records, but that’s another story…). How many more Kyrans will there be before we use common sense and use tech to keep kids safe?
