The eccentric Englishman knew he hadn’t long to live because of his deteriorating heart condition and yet again insisted he didn’t know the French beauty and didn’t murder her.

Bailey said: “I have my own theory on who killed Sophie and it is one of three people.
“It is wrong that someone can get away with murder but they did for many, many years.
“I never met Sophie, and I don’t remember being introduced to her as some people claimed.

Bailey claimed he was a hitman.
His name is known and has been passed on to the Gardai by award winning film director Jim Sheridan who made the smash hit Sky documentary on Sophie’s death, Murder at the Cottage.
One of Sheridan’s researchers has hours of unseen footage plus private tape recordings of Bailey speaking about the other suspects.
He was hoping the Gardai would follow up these leads as part of their much publicised cold case review into the murder.
