Brilliant and informative article, Niamh! There is so much to comment on, but I will say this when it concerns the sexual content:

In America, there is an unholy alliance of the government (education departments, with teachers unions as extensions), insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies. Do you think it is a coincidence that in Ireland, the government is now pushing for contraceptive availability for 16-year-olds and up? Pretty soon, they will find that there will be an increase for the need of antibiotics and antiviral medication for STDs, as well. The Irish citizenry needs to be very wary of all of this and demand that it not fall victim to this crap like many American communities have.
Parents and teachers who find this content appalling are correct in raising hell and demanding that it be removed from the curriculum. Parents are the ones who should be talking to their children about sexual matters; educators should restrict their content to the biology of it.
