I’m not an engineer or any kind of technical expert, but my dad was a plumber and looked into heat pumps. There weren’t feasible at the time. The modern variety using a box on the outside of a building have some built flaws: they are very attractive to rats in cold weather; they’re easily vandalised; they can easily get blocked, they’re a fire hazard and they’re inefficient for their size. The idea trialled in the Chelsea council flats (underground heat pump) sounds like an improvement.
