The eight-year-old was last seen at a Dundalk primary school at the end of May in 2022.

A Garda source said: “We are in contact with the Department of Social Protection to find out if child benefit was paid for Kyran and, if so how much.”

The source added: “We are keen to find out if social welfare were told he was missing, but we suspect they weren’t.

“We want to know if children’s allowance was claimed for Kyran when he was no longer alive.
