I’ve been following this story and can see it from different perspectives. Apparently Eugenie Houston has been accused of taking vexatious cases (“Isaac Wunder” lawsuits). While they were apparently thrown out, the defendants are still at a loss due to their own legal costs which she now allegedly owes. As she can’t afford to pay the costs, her assets are liable to be seized – including her house. There are two injustices here: 1. A person’s home should never be seized, no matter how much they owe; this only spreads the injustice to others (the taxpayer who will have to provide them with a home, mental health services if they suffer anxiety, etc); 2. No one should have to pay to defend themselves in court; legal defence is not something you bring on yourself: it is forced on you.
