DEI damaged
A backlash against corporate diversity and inclusion initiatives is expected to gather steam under Trump 2.0. After a Supreme court ruling struck down affirmative action policies at US colleges last year, firms like Walmart and Morgan Stanley dialled down DEI pledges. Faced with the threat of legal action from conservative lawyers like America First, it now appears that even Hollywood is quietly dropping targets. Trump has nominated former California GOP vice chair Harmeet Dhillon to head the Justice Department’s civil rights division and according to Puck she may soon lead reverse-discrimination lawsuits on behalf of the government. A lot of financially-pressed entertainment companies won’t want the hassle.
