A little history: Irish women were written out of Irish history over the past 100+ years but we remain a democracy. Pensions were paid to men but women so often were refused.

Just over 20 of the 500 recorded Cumman and mBan members in #Waterford were awarded a military pension

‘You didn’t see your way to give me a pension. It is shameful not to be recognised in any way for carrying arms, dispatches feeding the men on the run, sowing and knitting for them. Then to be ignored in such an abrupt way without any recognition for such services…’ (she also made reference to officers who were not helpful in filling out the pension forms) ‘but themselves are enjoying a good pension all these years.
