CONTROVERSIAL Fine Gael rep John McGahon has announced he is quitting politics.
The Louth politician has ruled out running for the Seanad again after failing to win seat in Dail Eireann in General Election 2024.In the days prior to the public going to the polls the outgoing senator said it had been a “very tough” few weeks as his election campaign was dealt a blow when a video emerged of him involved in an altercation.
The rep failed to get elected in the Louth consistency after his campaign was beset by questions over the footage.
Mr McGahon’s running mate, newcomer Paula Butterly, was subsequently elected.
The footage shows Mr McGahon apparently engaged in a fight outside a pub in 2018.
