I couldn’t agree more. While I understand the need for taxes, I believe they should be fair, and targeted towards making everyone independent – they certainly shouldn’t penalise people for getting a modest raise in their salary, or working a few hours overtime. And there should be no tax on a person’s home. Local Property Tax is a double-tax as the person has already bought the house, paid tax on all the bricks and mortar, the labour, the conveyancing and the estate agent’s commission. Capital Acquisitions Tax and Inheritance Tax are triple taxes, and grossly evil as they prevent people passing on their savings to relatives / friends (in a recent case, two bachelors living together had to get married so the older man could leave his friend his house in his will – otherwise the younger man would have to sell the house to pay the tax).
