Dublin’s Connolly Station has re-opened after it was closed for a time during this evenings rush hour at the request of gardaí following a security incident.

Armed gardaí entered the station in central Dublin during the incident.

It is understood that they were responding to reports that a person on the Sligo to Dublin service was carrying a weapon and that a person was arrested.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail said all services to and from Connolly were suspended during the incident between 6.30pm and 7.15pm.

The station has now reopened with the exception of Platform 5.
