Murder investigation after body of woman found in Cavan

Gardaí have commenced a murder investigation after the body of a woman in her 50s was found following an incident at a residence in Co Cavan.

Gardaí said they were alerted to a serious incident in a rural area near Ballyconnell at approximately 9.30pm last night.

The woman’s body was discovered by gardaí at the scene.

A man in his 60s was seriously injured and was brought to Cavan General Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

A man in his 30s was arrested at a separate location and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a garda station in the Co Cavan area.

Gardaí said the investigation is being led from an incident room at Cavan Garda Station.

They said a Senior Investigating Officer and Family Liaison Officer will be appointed in due course.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and those with information to come forward.

They specifically appealed to anyone who travelled in the area of Kilnavert, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan, last night between 8.30pm and 9.30pm to provide gardaí with any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings.
