Last point. Ireland runs a massive trade surplus with the US, something which Trump has long believed amounts to America being ripped off. Switching some gas imports from Britain to the US would narrow that surplus, another ‘concession’ to Trump with little/no cost for Ireland.

Further to enhancing energy security, importing American liquified natural gas directly would end total dependence on a single pipeline from Britain and concretely enhance Ireland-US relations by giving Trump a win at White House Patrick’s day event (if it goes ahead).
