Showband icon Paddy Cole, 85, dies after health battle as ‘music world mourns’ sax player & singer with tributes paid

He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2022

The Monaghan music man, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2022, was one of the leaders of Irish showbusiness for the last 70 years.

He was receiving hospice care at the time of his death.

His son Pat confirmed the tragic news of the musician’s passing this afternoon.

In a statement, he said: “The music world mourns the loss of the legendary Paddy Cole, a beloved entertainer who brought joy to thousands with his vibrant personality and infectious music.
