Gardai arrest two girls after number of thefts in Dublin

Gardaí received report of a number of incidents in which people were taken to ATMs and coerced into making huge purchases and withdrawing sums of cash, which were then robbed from them

Gardaí have arrested two female juveniles following a number of thefts in Dublin in which people were coerced into withdrawing money.

Officers launched an investigation into a number of thefts in Dublin City Centre, having received reports of a number of incidents that occurred on Monday and Tuesday involving people being taken to cash points and retailers, and coerced into making substantial purchases and withdrawing sums of cash which were then stolen.

Gardaí from the Serious Crime Unit at Pearse Street Garda Station have arrested two female juvenile teens today in connection with these incidents. They are both detained at a Garda Station in Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí have appealed to any members of the public who believe they may be the victim of a similar incident to make contact with them.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Any members of the public who believe they may have been a victim of a similar incident in Dublin City Centre in recent days are asked to make contact with Gardaí at Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000.”

The Garda spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing.
