All illegal Irish in the US should be sent home. The law applies equally. The Irish government should prioritise these returning emigrants – along with all returning diaspora – for any job before it is filled by a non-Irish immigrant. If these returning illegals find no job it’s not nice for them but it’s ultimately good for the nation. Every Irish government since the foundation of the state has relied on the pressure release valve of emigration. If that easy out is removed, then increased anger from those who would once have fled Ireland will eventually force change
