
Criticising Islam or Islamism, is one of the most dangerous things a person can do in the West. Here’s a list of 10 such people who have been murdered or survived assassination attempts by Islamists: 1. Stéphane “Charb” Charbonnier – MURDERED The French satirical caricaturist and journalist was murdered together with several other Charlie Hebdo cartoonists in an Islamist terror attack against their Paris office on Jan. 7th 2015. 2. Salwan Momika – MURDERED The Iraqi man had become famous across the world for his public Quran burnings in Sweden. He was shot to death by 5 assassins who broke into his Swedish home last night while Salvan was livestreaming on TikTok. 3. Theo van Gogh – MURDERED The Dutch film director was stabbed and shot to death on the streets of Amsterdam in 2004 by a Moroccan Islamist who had been angered by van Gogh’s decision to direct “Submission: Part 1,” a short film written by Somali writer and politician
which criticised the treatment of women in Islam in strong terms. The attacker left a note pinned to Van Gogh’s stomach with a knife containing death threats to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who went into hiding. 4. Samuel Paty – MURDERED The French teacher was beheaded by a young Islamist Chechen asylum seeker in 2020 near Paris for showing caricatures of Muhammad in a class discussion about free speech. 5. MP Sir David Amess – MURDERED The British Member of Parliament from the Conservative Party was stabbed to death in 2021 by an Islamist of Somali descent who claimed he had murdered David due to his support for the Western airstrikes in Syria during the campaign against ISIS and his pro-Israel stance. 6. Salman Rushdie – SURVIVOR The British-Indian author was repeatedly stabbed in the face, neck and abdomen while giving a speech in New York in 2022. The Lebanese Islamist attacker was pulled away by a policeman before managing to kill Rushdie. Rushdie lost an eye and the use of a hand. Ayatollah Khomeini has ordered Rushdie’s murder in a fatwa in 1989 for writing the Satanic Verses, a novel in which Rushdie had criticized Islam. 7. Lars Vilks – SURVIVOR The Swedish artist and free speech activist survived several assassination attempts, including an Islamist terror attack in 2015 against an event in Copenhagen where free speech activists and cartoonists had gathered. Vilks was known for his controversial drawings of Prophet Mohammed. 8. Kurt Westergaard – SURVIVOR The Danish cartoonist has survived 2 assassination attempts. The latest one in 2010 took place at his home. A Somali Islamist armed with an axe and knife had broken into Kurt’s home, who fled when he saw the intruder standing in the hallway wielding an axe. Westergaard took his 5-year-old granddaughter into a “panic room” when he realized what was happening. The terrorists attempted to break down the reinforced door with his axe, shouting phrases like “We will get our revenge!”, “Revenge!” and “Blood!” He failed to get through and was shot by police officers who arrived on the scene within a few minutes. 9. Lars Hedegaard – SURVIVOR The Danish author, critic of Islam and Chairman of the Danish Free Press Society survived an assassination attempt in 2013. An Arab Islamist terrorist disguised as a postal worker rang on Hedegaard’s door with a parcel in his hands. When Hedegaard opened his door to receive the supposed delivery, the attacker drew a gun and shot at him. The bullet missed Hedegaard’s head by a very small margin. After the first shot, the gun jammed when the attacker tried to fire a second time. Hedegaard fought back and the attacker fled the scene and later also the country. 10. Michael Sturzenburger – SURVIVOR The German anti-Islam activist was stabbed by an Islamist Afghan asylum seeker during a public event on a square in Mannheim in 2024. The asylum seeker stabbed a policeman in the neck, killing him.
