If intimidation can be proven, the individuals responsible for such intimidation can be held in contempt of court leading to fines and imprisonment. It is intended that Courts in Ireland would take a dim view of attempts to undermine the integrity of the judicial process. Courts may take measures to protect witnesses from intimidation including issuing restraining orders or providing anonymity to witnesses in certain cases. Legal representatives have a duty to ensure their clients are not engaging in intimidating behaviour and to report such conduct. Witnesses / solicitors who have been intimidated, coerced or harassed may report the behaviour to law enforcement and to the Court.
