A man in his 60s died after an assault in Gainsborough Lawn, Malahide

A man has been charged in connection with a fatal assault in Malahide, County Dublin.

Gardaí (Irish police) said a man in his 60s was found unresponsive following the attack at Gainsborough Lawn at about 08:30 local time on Saturday morning.

He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The man, aged in his 20s, is set to appear before a special sitting of the Criminal Courts of Justice on Sunday.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ reports that the victim’s body was removed on Saturday and a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

A section of the estate in Malahide remains sealed off as Gardaí continue their investigation.
