A man charged connection with stabbing incidents in Dublin’s Stoneybatter told gardai “I was afraid to be killed.”

Gabrial Fereira Motta Valladares (29) of Broadstone Avenue in Dublin appeared before a sitting of Dublin’s District Court this morning on four charges. The accused, who was visibly crying court, was charged with possession of a box cutter knife at Murtagh Road, possession of a scissors on Manor Place – and two charges of assault causing harm to two named individuals on Sunday February 9.

The alleged assault incidents occurred on Oxmanstown Road and Niall Street. The accused had his head in his hands and was heard speaking to himself at numerous points during the short hearing.

Giving evidence of arrest charge and caution, Detective Garda David Chapman of Bridewell Garda station said he arrested the accused on February 10 at 10:35pm for the purpose of charge. The accused was conveyed to the Bridewell Garda Station where he was then charged at 11:30pm. He made no reply after caution to two of the charges but said “I was afraid to be killed” after caution when charged with one of the assaults.

Det Garda Chapman said Gardai would be objecting to bail. However solicitor Michael French, representing the accused, made no application for bail at this time.

Judge Aine Clancy was remanded the accused into custody. He will appear next before a sitting of Dublin’s Cloverhill Prison on February 18th.
