This is deeply worrying, a targeted attack on the free press in Ireland. By the state. There must be an accounting. I have been an avid admirer and supporter of An Garda Síochána since my childhood. I actually love that police force. They are the thin blue line that have kept Ireland safe, stable, a place where we can settle our differences with rigorous debate, inquiry and democratic competition including the right to protest. A free press is essential for all and any of these things to take place. Whoever caused them to undertake this breach of the civic trust, needs to be held to full account. “Make no mistake, we consider this act by the state’s police force to be an intolerable, and egregious, attack on the right to privacy and the right of a free press to operate within the Republic of Ireland.”
