Kyran DurninKyran Durnin’s maternal grandmother gives two-word response when asked about schoolboy’s disappearance Exclusive: Rhonda Byrne was asked by our reporter if she wished to speak about the search for Kyran and if she had anything to say about the murder probe investigation.The maternal grandmother of missing schoolboy Kyran Durnin did not wish to comment on her grandson’s disappearance when approached by the Irish Mirror, telling us to ‘Go away.’

Rhonda Byrne – who was reportedly recorded on tape saying she last saw the youngster alive on August 28 last year – told our reporter ‘Go Away’ when we asked if she wished to speak about the search for Kyran and if she had anything to say in regards to the murder probe investigation.

Kyran, who was six years old when he was last seen in June 2022, is missing and presumed dead. A major garda investigation has been underway since last October in a bid to find out what happened to the little schoolboy, to discover his whereabouts, and uncover who was involved in his disappearance.

Kyran was reported missing at the end of August last year along with his mother Dayla Durnin. Shortly afterwards, gardai upgraded Kyran’s disappearance to a murder investigation.

On Tuesday afternoon we approached Ms Byrne as she was exiting her car outside her home in Drogheda. Ms Byrne wound down the driver’s side window when we identified ourselves and we asked her if she wished to speak about her grandson and the murder investigation, given the huge public interest and concern over how Kyran slipped through the net.She said ‘Go away’ and closed the car window before we left. Last December, we approached Kyran’s mother Dayla in the UK town of Ipswich where we understand she has been living since the end of August.When we asked if she had anything she wanted to say she declined to answer but told us “I’d appreciate it if you would go away from me. Thank you.”

Last week a three day search of a property and garden in Drogheda took place in a bid to find any evidence relating to how the boy died and where his remains may be.

However, nothing of evidential value was found during extensive searches of the property of a female known to six year old Kyran. Despite no evidence of Kyran’s remains having been discovered, the murder investigation continues. Investigators now will carry out a review and analysis of everything they have received and discovered so far in the inquiry.

Earlier we reported how Kyran’s dad turned up at the scene where the house and garden was being searched on Thursday in a visibly distressed state and shouted: “He’s my son. Youse don’t understand.”

Kyran’s dad, who is not a suspect in the murder investigation of the six-year-old boy, walked the street to the property being searched on Thursday afternoon, accompanied by friends.“Despite the public support and extensive and ongoing enquiries carried out by Gardaí to date, An Garda Síochána have been unable to locate Kyran. Kyran would now be 8 years old.

“An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to the public, notwithstanding all the information that is in the public domain, do not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have.

“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence,” An Garda Siochana said.
