According to an internal Govt document, (seen by the Irish Times), the Irish Govt has stopped opening asylum seeker accommodation in several areas – Dublin’s north inner city, Kerry, Clare, Mayo & Donegal due to “local opposition, arson attacks, and criminality.” Some key figures: • 33 arson attacks on planned centres • 18,000 asylum seekers in 2024, • 15,000+ expected in 2025 – housing crisis worsening. • 3,000 single men homeless due to lack of space. • 5,360 approved stuck in centres – no private housing available. • Ireland issues fewer deportation orders than EU norms (2,400 vs. needed 12,000) Opinion: This marks a significant step in acknowledging the issue. The Govt knows this system is a total disaster. Where are 15k+ more people going to go in 2025? What about 2026, 2027 & beyond? We cannot continue to compound this problem. Tough decisions need to be made. The focus now must shift to limiting the number of people applying for Asylum. Just follow the Danish model
