Dublin teen remanded on bail after he was caught with €1,300 in drugs in Pringles can. A Dublin 4 youth has been remanded on bail pending sentence after he was caught with €1,300 worth of assorted drugs hidden in a Pringles crisps can.

The then 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to possessing LSD, cocaine, MDMA and herbal cannabis for the purpose of sale or supply at the Royal Hospital Donnybrook, Dublin, on the afternoon of December 4, last.

Judge John O’Connor heard at the Dublin Children’s Court that after receiving a report about the youth on Marlborough Road, gardai stopped him on the grounds of the hospital.

The court heard he had acid (LSD), MDMA, cocaine and herbal cannabis in a Pringles can and he was arrested and interviewed.

The youth, who has no prior criminal convictions, had built up a drug debt with “dangerous individuals”, defence solicitor Brian Coveney told the court.

The solicitor said: “Threats were made to his family there were calls to the door.”The court also heard that he missed some school over the past two years as a result of his issues.

Garda John Cahill agreed with him that there has been a change in the now 18-year-old youth’s demeanour.

He also agreed with Mr Coveney that the teen is now in full time education, has a supportive family and could become a valuable member of the community.A conviction could have great ramifications for him in the future, the solicitor said in pleas for leniency.

Judge O’Connor said it was a serious issue and there were victims in relation to drugs which have a shattering impact not only on individuals but families as well.

He said: “I have no doubt your own issue had a huge impact on your own family, I can tell your mum is upset.”

He noted the teen had no previous convictions and has pleaded guilty.

He adjourned sentencing until September pending the preparation probation report on the youth which is also to address a possible restorative justice approach to the case.
