Grim drone GUN drop fear as brazen Irish inmates get drugs & weapons to cell windows & jail tensions at ‘breaking point’
Officers are worried that some criminals may attempt to smuggle a gun in to try to escape

With the overcrowding crisis at an all-time high, staff in the jails are under more threat than ever as tensions soar among lags.
A number of officers have been attacked this year.
But it is also having other major knock-on effects, with contraband being stockpiled in cells because so much of it is now getting in.

And in an interview with The Irish Sun on Sunday, the Prison Officers’ Association deputy general secretary Gabriel Keaveny warned the system is at breaking point.“The Irish Prison Service capital budget is €53million in 2025, an increase of €22.5million on the original 2024 allocation, focused on bringing additional prison spaces into the system.
“The Irish Prison Service continues to engage with the Department of Justice to progress plans to bring on-stream accommodation to support the target of 1,500 additional prison places as set out under Programme for Government.”
