Numbers applying for asylum in Ireland plummets to 3k after deportation orders triple to 1k in first 3 months of year

Some 3,021 people applied for international protection in Ireland in the first three months of this year – down from 5,162 applications in the same period last year.
The number of asylum seekers arriving in Ireland every week has been falling since October last year.
Some 847 people sought asylum here last month – a more than 50 per cent drop on the same month last year.
