Kieran Creaven, a former RTÉ sports producer, was convicted in 2018 after being caught by a UK-based vigilante group, Predator Exposure, in Leeds, England. He traveled from Dublin to meet who he believed was a 13-year-old girl he had groomed online with hundreds of messages, including explicit content. The “girl” was a decoy created by the group, who confronted him and alerted police. Creaven pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to meet a minor after grooming and inciting sexual activity. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and received an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. In 2019, further investigation by Irish authorities led to additional charges for sexually abusing and exploiting children in Ireland and the Philippines over a decade. He was convicted unanimously and sentenced to 10 years in 2021. RTÉ suspended and later fired him following his guilty plea
