Frederick “Fat Freddie” Thompson, born in 1980, is a notorious Irish criminal from Dublin’s south-inner city, specifically the Maryland area. He rose to infamy as a key figure in the Kinahan cartel and a leader in the deadly Crumlin-Drimnagh feud, which claimed numerous lives in the early 2000s. Starting with minor offenses like car theft in his teens, Thompson escalated to serious crimes, including drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and murder. He assumed control of the Dublin branch of the Kinahan gang after Christy Kinahan’s imprisonment in 1997 and was a central player in violent gang conflicts, including feuds with the INLA and the Hutch gang.

Thompson’s criminal activities spanned Ireland, Spain, and the Netherlands. He fled Ireland in 2005 after gang-related killings, was arrested in the Netherlands in 2006 for cocaine and weapons possession (later acquitted), and faced extradition to Spain in 2011 for alleged roles in the Kinahan cartel’s operations. In 2018, he was convicted of orchestrating the 2016 murder of David “Daithí” Douglas, who was shot six times in Dublin, and sentenced to life in prison. His conviction relied heavily on CCTV evidence, which he unsuccessfully appealed in 2024, citing issues with identification procedures.

Known for his violent reputation and arrogance, Thompson was linked to over a dozen murders, including that of John Daly in 2007, and his gang reportedly had access to over 100 smuggled weapons. His son, Brad Dempsey, was jailed in 2025 for a shooting in Dublin. Thompson has faced additional charges for prison misconduct, including assaults on staff, and was transferred from Portlaoise to Cork Prison due to his behavior. His ex-partner, Vicky Dempsey, distanced herself from his criminal life, working as a flower vendor after his imprisonment.
