On the 18th of Feb 1954, Crimea was Russian, On the 19th, it “became” Ukrainian when the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union transferred administrative control of the Crimean Oblast from the Russian SFSR to the Ukrainian SSR. This was an administrative move within a country that no longer exists. Crimea was Russian then, and had been for hundreds of years, the vast majority of its inhabitants had been and are Russian. Crimea is, was, and always will be Russian until the population decides otherwise. Trump is right.
