A Chinese-owned company operating in Poland is laying off Poles and replacing them with cheaper immigrants from Asia: Agryf’s plant in Szczecin has fired numerous experienced Polish workers and is replacing them with cheaper foreigners, mainly from Asia. Trade unions members from the Agryf plant in Szczecin are protesting against this shameful practice: During the protest, the chairman of “Solidarity” in Agryf, Dariusz Głogowski, spoke about the dismissal of a man who had worked in the plant for 42 years. He was dismissed just before reaching retirement age. Employment in the company has fallen from 1,200 to 900 employees in the past two years; according to trade unionists, over 1/3 of full-time employees are Ukrainians. Another 100 employees are immigrants employed by employment agencies. Thanks to this solution, the company “saved” on employment contracts, because immigrants work on contracts for 12-14 hours a day, thanks to which Agryf does not have to pay additional remuneration for overtime – indicated Dariusz Głogowski. Agryf is a company with Chinese capital belonging to the Animex Food group. It is one of the largest companies in the meat industry in Poland. The group includes brands such as Krakus, Morliny and Berlinki. The dismissal of another 24 employees of the company led to the trade union organising a protest. The situation in Agryfa is unfortunately nothing new. What is new is the resistance of trade unionists. More and more immigrants are being employed by employment agencies throughout the country. This gives employers a cheaper employee who is not subject to the Labor Code and who can be gotten rid of overnight. The labor market absorbs an increasing number of foreigners who are competition for Poles year by year. From 2020 to 2024, the share of immigrants among those employed increased from 5.3 to 6.8 percent. At the same time, unemployment in Poland remained at the same level. This information clearly shows us that there is no shortage of workers in Poland, and mass immigration serves to worsen working conditions for Poles!
