Trial of Former All Star Hurler, DJ Carey begins in July.

The trial of former Kilkenny hurler DJ Carey is scheduled to begin on July 2, 2025, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Carey faces 21 fraud and forgery charges, including 19 counts of deception and two counts of using a false instrument, related to an alleged scheme where he falsely claimed to have cancer to solicit funds from 23 people, including notable figures like Denis O’Brien, Larry O’Gorman, and Tony Griffin, between 2014 and 2022. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial is expected to last three to five weeks.
