A repeat offender with 93 prior convictions who stole thousands of euro worth of belongings from restaurant staff rooms in Dublin city centre has had his 15-month prison sentence changed to a fully suspended term following an appeal, reports Breaking News.

Stepan Pavlov (46), residing on New Cabra Road, Cabra, Dublin 7, admitted in the District Court to three counts of burglary, in breach of section 12 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.

At the District Court Appeals Court on Thursday, it was heard that Pavlov entered Murray’s Bar on O’Connell Street on July 14th, 2023, and took over €1,000 worth of items from staff lockers in the staff area, reports Breaking News.

On March 10th, 2023 — four months earlier — Pavlov had entered Chequer Lane on Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, and stole a wallet and a laptop worth over €1,600 from the staff quarters.

A third incident occurred on October 10th, 2023, when he was found rifling through staff belongings at a restaurant on Molesworth Street, Dublin 2. He was caught with a stolen purse worth €200, reports Breaking News.

For these three offences, Pavlov was originally sentenced to a total of 15 months in prison by the District Court.

He has a history of 93 convictions, including for burglary and possessing stolen goods, reports Breaking News.

Stephen O’Mahoney, representing Pavlov, told Judge James O’Donohoe that his client had begun efforts to overcome a drug addiction.

He submitted a letter from Coolmine Therapeutic Community, which he described as providing a “gold standard” in supporting his client’s rehabilitation journey, reports Breaking News.

Judge O’Donohoe warned Pavlov this was his “last chance saloon” and replaced the prison sentence with a fully suspended one for a two-year period.

The suspension is conditional on Pavlov remaining peaceful, undergoing monthly urine tests that are drug-free, and avoiding the city centre unless he has a valid reason to be there,
